Highlights presents Balto the Sled Dog written by Barbara Schmitz Garriel. In the winter of 1925, many people in Nome, Alaska, were sick and needed medicine. There was a snowstorm, so planes and boats could not deliver the medicine. Sled dogs were the only way to get medicine to Nome. Gunnar Kaasen chose Balto to lead his team of dogs.
